1894

The company was founded by Henri Girard on Rue des Tournelles in Paris. Fifteen years after the invention of the electric light bulb by Joseph Swan and its improvement by Thomas A. Edison in 1879, the era of electric lighting began. To equip candle chandeliers, Henri Girard developed a sheath system combined with a luminous candle that allowed this new lighting method to be used while maintaining a traditional style.

1927-1936

Georges Sudron joined the company and directed the creation and manufacturing towards decorative flame lamps which would become emblematic.

1955

It was the post-war period, when François Wilmart, as director, gave the company a new direction and contributed to the evolution of lighting. Girard Sudron then devised an entirely new glassblowing technique with a "slightly curved tip," which was subsequently widely copied. This led to the launch of the "Coup de vent" (1955), "Grand Siècle" (1968), "Torche" (1977), and "Empire" (1990) lamp lines.

1960

In the range of components, the launch of the “Grand Siècle Candle” was a revolution in equipping chandeliers and stylish lighting fixtures with real electrified candles. 30 years later, they would be used in prestigious locations: Paris City Hall, the Palace of Versailles, major European palaces, and luxury retail outlets.

1964-1984

The company expands its export market by encouraging lighting manufacturers to comply with European standards through the marketing of approved and certified accessories. By developing its complete range of glassware, Girard Sudron establishes itself as the leader in lighting.

1996

Registration of the Eco-watts® trademark for a range dedicated to energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps. Girard Sudron receives a Special Prize at the 1996 Lighting Show. Publication of the lighting bible, a catalog with 17 booklets.

2002-2005

With more than 6 million bulbs manufactured, Girard Sudron is the undisputed leader in the European decorative bulb market.

2005-2011

The beginning of a new technological era in the field of lighting with the development of energy-saving light sources and in particular the creation of the first decorative LED flame bulb.

2012

A new impetus has been given to the company thanks to the arrival of a Swiss investment fund, enabling the merger with the Swiss LED lighting specialist whose parent company is based in Nyon.

2013

Development and launch of the 330° LED range with a unique diffusion angle on the market, restoring lighting quality lost with compact fluorescent lamps. Energy savings can now reach 80% for a lifespan of more than 10 years.

2014

Marketing of the first LED filament light sources, once again positioning Girard Sudron as a pioneer in the light bulb market. This year also marks the development of international markets with the opening of subsidiaries in Germany and Italy.

2016

Launch of the first flexible LED filament lamps, thanks to the development of a polymer technology that allows the filament to have a rounded shape aesthetically similar to that of older metal filaments. The group opens its doors to England.

2017

This year has been exceptional for the group, which, in addition to opening its fifth subsidiary in Belgium, has unveiled its new visual identity with a clean and elegant look. Three catalogs have been published under this new charter:"light sources"with more than 100 new features including Twisted & Loops, and a new version of the Vis Versa range, the catalog"lights"enriched with high-end products suitable for all lighting modernization projects. And finally, the long-awaited edition - since the previous one in 2015 - of"equipment"for redesigned electrical accessories and components including the DIY range.

2018

Elegance, originality, innovation, quality, longevity, so many qualifiers that define the new selection of light sources 2018. In the extension of the technical know-how of Maison Girard Sudron, a quality/environmental approach was initiated to aim for ISO 9001 certification in 2019. The objective is to provide products as innovative as they are impeccable and to allow the creation of contemporary interiors with a cozy atmosphere.
